Do three house constitute a neighborhood? There's a gravel lane tucked away in the otherwise tony Cleveland suburb of Sagamore Hills where three houses stand empty, and they're the only three houses on the lane. One house, not pictured here, is maintained and looks like the Nat'l Park uses it for training or something, because in the basement was a TV on a cart with a dozen chairs arrayed in front as if it was setup to watch a training video.

The others are behind the cut.

This one I couldn't get into, but it looked like it was the set for the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre." It wasn't, of course, but it has some interesting outbuildings.

This one had a big fireplace in it. A smokehouse, maybe?

I'm probably gonna go back next Friday, since I have the day off.

Weird!

The total lack of debris for the ceiling got me thinking.

The only reason I can think of for pulling out the ceilings like that is asbestos. They use to use a product that was sprayed for texture that was heavily laden with asbestos in the late 60's.

Cool icon!

I think they were renovating it, but they appeared to have stopped, since the door was broken into and not repaired, and it was a weekday morning and they weren't working.

Dunno about asbestos, though. The house is a '50s style. Did they use asbestos in residential dwellings then? Plus, it looked like it had been updated since then.

I'm gonna get the address when I go back and do some research.

Asbestos was used in "Popcorn" ceiling texture well into the 70's. It wasn't banned until the early 80's

My house was built in 69 and I had a bunch of asbestos duct tape on my forced air HVAC that I removed.

It's easy to find. Going south on Riverview road, towards Boston Mills, make a right (east) on Boston Mills Rd. You'll go by the Boston Store trailhead, and the old Pure gas station. Not far past that is Stanford Road on the left (north side of the road). Go down Stanford for about a mile or so. You'll pass the youth hostel, then take a sharp right turn and go up a hill. Near the top of the hill is a blocked-off gravel road called Latta Lane on the left. That's the road the houses are on. There's a turnoff on the north side of Stanford road about a mile before Latta Lane. That's where I parked, and you can just go straight up the hill to the one house.

That's the most direct way. When I was on my way out, a park ranger drove up Stanford. I dunno ifthe people who live in the house at the end of Stanford called, or if there are cameras on the one house, or if he was on a routine patrol, but you might want to have a lookout on the hillside looking down Stanford Road before the sharp turn.

Several stealthier route options exist. You can park at the other end of Standford Road (the middle section is blocked off) near Brandywine Falls and take Stnaford Road from the other direction, or you can walk along the Towpath and go overland to Latta Lane. The satellite photos on Google Maps show the whole area in great detail.

I'm going again this Friday if you want company.

I'll probably be there around 10 a.m., as long as the rain stops. Or if the cops are reading this. In which case I'M STAYING HOME FRIDAY!!! :-D
